Glee regulars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer will not be back for the fourth season of the Fox musical hit.

In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series co-creator Ryan Murphy said that the three regulars will be among the characters who graduate at the end of the fall’s upcoming third season.

Colfer, Michele and Monteith are “not going to be back at all for Season 4,” Murphy said. “You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.”

Murphy added that planning for the future beyond high school will be a heavy theme during Season 3, noting that “more characters are leaving than are staying” when graduation time comes at the season’s end.

“We’ve never done anything by the book,” he said, adding that who’s graduating and who’s staying will be revealed in the Sept. 20 season premiere. “We made that decision and I involved Chris and Lea and they thought that was a good idea. They both trust the writing and trust me and felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top.”

Murphy and co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan’s decision to graduate the trio -- among others -- has been well-received by the show’s new writers, he said. The group recently returned to work and are writing story lines that include several characters’ parents as the college talk heats up.

COVER STORY: 'Glee's' Biggest, Craziest, Most Expensive Show Ever

“We already made the decision before the new writers came in, but everybody likes where we’re taking it and what we’re writing toward,” Murphy said, noting that while he loved the “relationship roulette” from Season 2, the upcoming run would find everyone’s love lives more stable.

“I’m much more interested in Lea’s character -- not so much on her relationship with Finn, but more on what her dreams are beyond high school and how she plans on getting them,” he added. “That’s what my senior year was about.”

Murphy acknowledged that while he hasn’t discussed graduation plans with Monteith yet, he presumes he’s aware that Finn will be among those graduating. “He knows he was a sophomore when the show started.”

Question: There is a rumor that Jayma Mays is leaving Glee too. Please say it ain’t so!
Ausiello: It ain’t so! Mays’ contract option was definitely picked up. And to all those inquiring about the status of Ashley Fink, her rep assures me that she will be back on a recurring basis next season.

Glee! Is Blaine transferring to McKinley? If so, how soon next season?
Since Darren Criss is officially a series regular, we can't imagine Ryan Murphy could keep him out of McKinley High for long. We know his method of operation too well. We wouldn't be surprised if Blaine makes the transfer within the first three episodes.

Cytat:
Murphy later told TVLine that he would be open to the idea of possibly spinning some of the characters off into their own show — perhaps an hour-long series about a group of young artists (namely Rachel and Kurt) who head to New York City to pursue their musical theater dreams.

“It’s an interesting idea,” he said at the time. “The questions are ‘How would we do it? And when would we do it?’ It would have to be something I would talk about to [Fox bigwigs] Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly and [20th Century Fox brass] Dana Walden and Gary Newman. What we’re trying to do now — maybe those discussions will happen around December — we’re just now trying to do the first 10 episodes.”

"Oh my God, I couldn't go on my Twitter [Wednesday] without getting severe anxiety," says Chris Colfer. That's when Ryan Murphy made it official that Colfer, along with Glee stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, would be exiting the show after the coming third season.

Glee: Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer not returning for Season 4

Colfer, who received his second Emmy nomination for playing Kurt Hummel on Thursday, says while the news wasn't unexpected, it was still shocking to hear it.

"I think it was something we all knew was coming, just because Ryan has said from the beginning that people would be graduating," he says. "It's definitely not my choice, but I absolutely respect it and understand why it has to happen. Ryan has said, and I love this, that there's nothing sadder than a high school student with a bald spot — it's true! This is what happens in real life. Kids grow up and they move on. It makes sense that that's what we would do."

Chris Colfer's journey from social llama to Glee

At the moment, he's too busy to get weepy. Asked how he'd celebrate his Emmy nod, Colfer said he's still filming the movie Struck By Lightning. "I'm going to the set of a movie that I'm starring in, wrote and am producing, so that's not too bad!"

Glee goes back into production next month, but Colfer's still waiting to hear what senior year holds for Kurt and his new boyfriend Blaine (Darren Criss). But he is excited about one thing: "I am very much looking forward to the graduation gown that Kurt wears because Lord knows it's going to be out of this world."

And there's always that song wishlist. "I love 'Edge of Glory' by Lady Gaga," he says. "I think it would be funny to do 'S&M' by Rihanna too. I don't know; is that pushing it?"

Myślę, że warto jest przeczytać cały wywiad z RM, a tym bardziej, że jest on przetłumaczony na polski Wink
Cytat:
Oglądalność The Glee Project powoli wzrasta.
Ciągłe pisanie o Glee pomogło serialowi i odbudowało go.

Zwycięzca programu zostanie uczniem liceum McKinley, którego Sue znienawidzi od pierwszego wejrzenia i będzie starała go zniszczyć.

Czy zwycięzca TGP będzie należał do samorządu uczniowskiego?
Nie. Będzie w nim coś, co bardzo irytuje Sue. Znowu pojawi się w niej nienawiść, którą tylko ona będzie rozumiała.

10.27am: What was it like seeing themselves in 3D? Ushkowitz: "Kind of awesome." Shum Jr. says Criss "looks like a little kid" on there.

10.28am: Truth on Ryan Murphy's comments that Monteith, Michele and Colfer have been axed? Falchuk: "I don't know where that report came from. Cory, Lea, Chris are seniors, but they're graduating. Just because they're graduating, it doesn't mean they're leaving the show. If you have Lea Michele under contract, you're not just going to let her go. Come the first episode back, you see who the seniors and juniors are. Some of our seniors will not graduate. I can guarantee here that they are not done with the show after this season."

10.29am: Falchuk reveals that Ushkowitz is a junior. He adds: "The opening sequence is everybody saying what they want to do when they grow up, so you see everyone's anxieties."

10.30am: Falchuk says the first nine episodes will focus on the run-up to Sectionals.

10.31am: Tribute episode? Falchuk: "We talked about it. If it's going to happen, it will happen in the second half of the season. We really do want to spend some real time with the characters in the first nine, ten episodes."

10.32am: The Chord Overstreet drama. "For reasons he's aware of, we decided not to make him a regular but we did ask him to come back for a portion of the season. He declined the offer, which we were very disappointed by because we were writing stories for him. We had some cool ideas with him and Mercedes, but Chord decided he had opportunities elsewhere. I will say, just because he's gone, Mercedes will have a new boyfriend she met up with this summer. He's like 'you deserve more, Mercedes', lifting her up. He's this big bubba kind of guy."

10.33am: More Beiste this season? "We have some great stuff for her."

10.34am: How do fans react? DMJ: "It's been overwhelming. Fans for The Beiste are awesome."

10.35am: When will Tina and Artie get back together? Falchuk: "Nothing's ever done, but Tina and Mike are fine for this season.

10.36am: Falchuk: "We're going to meet Mike's parents. His parents will have opinions on what he should do with his life."

10.37am: Criss: "This year has been incredibly wonderful and bizarre. I feel so weird to be on this panel. I've been blessed with an amazing character. It's been eerily wonderful."

10.38am: Criss says Blaine and Kurt have "reached the honeymoon phase. I'm a big fan of Klaine so I hope it lasts a while." Falchuk: "They're not breaking up. They're solid. They have problems - you have two stars dating each other, there's going to be some competition there."

10.39am: New character - nemesis to Sue? Falchuk: "Not really at all."

10.43am: More of the characters' families in season three? Kurt's lesbian aunts, Rachel's dads? Brennan: "It's tricky with parents. In the second episode ever, we actually wrote a scene with her dads and we cut it. We've talked about it forever, but I think when you're in high school, your parents stop being the major influence in your life. You're sort of on your own. I think soon we'll reveal more and more."

10.47am: Thoughts to spinoff with Rachel, Kurt and Finn? Falchuk: "Yes. We explored that as a possibility. It was weird when Chris Colfer was saying he heard on Twitter about him not coming back, because we hadn't talked to him about it since March. We're leaning against a spinoff right now. I think we're going to pass."

10.48am: Falchuk: "If you watched the finale last season, Broadway was something we were planting as a possibility because we were exploring it."

10.49am: Will Blaine be developed more this season? Brennan: "Yes."

10.56am: Will Beiste have a relationship? Falchuk: "We've thought about it, we haven't come up with anything yet. We get what people love about Beiste, which is her vulnerability. Dot is literally the mushiest people I've ever met. We're really interested in exploring those parts of her as a performer."

10.58am: Sue this season? Brennan: "Sue's running for congress. Ken died of a heart attack." Flachuk: "She's taken destroying Will and the Glee club on a local level, now she's taken it to a national level. Sue's running on a 'no arts' platform."

Since by now half of the Cheerios are members of New Directions, Glee is enrolling a new crop of Mean Girls! Who’s who?

* Sugar is… well, she’s basically RHNJ’s Danielle Staub, only in high school. Affluent, self-confident and a godawful singer.

* Sheila, a modern-day Joan Jett, actually hasher own pack of Blackhearts and the tats to go with ’em.

But that’s not all. As production on season 3 gets underway next week, I’m hearing that the show is also on the lookout for a new linebacker, a gigantosaur by the name of Bubba. (What did you expect, a Kevin?) Sixtysomething actresses will also be passing through to audition for the role of Nancy Bletheim, a geometry teacher who thinks the arts are for… well, anywhere but in school.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

“Glee” star Chris Colfer is happy the confusion about his future on the hit FOX show has been resolved.

“Everything was just kind of a series of misunderstandings,” the actor told Access Hollywood on the set of his upcoming movie, “Struck by Lighting.”

“Everything’s good now. We are on the show, I don’t think we’re going anywhere,” he continued.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Chris and co-stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith have seven-year contracts and though their characters will be graduating, they will not be leaving the show.

In addition to continuing with “Glee,” Chris is branching out on the big screen in “Struck by Lighting,” about a teen whose life is cut short by a freak accident.

“Unfortunately he’s killed [during] his senior year of high school by a bolt of lightning,” he said of the movie, which he also wrote the screenplay for. “The entire movie is a series of flash backs told from his point of view about his death and his last year of life.”

“Struck by Lighting” also stars “Mad Men’s” Christina Hendricks and “Modern Family’s” Sarah Hyland.

Speaking out for the first time about Glee‘s summer of controversy, Fox president Kevin Reilly concedes that things got a little out of control, but insists the show remains on solid creative footing as it heads into its third season.
“I think it has taken on a little more heated momentum than it in fact is,” said Reilly of the kerfuffle that raised questions about the fate of stars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer. “This show is a big management undertaking. There are many successful shows on the air that have genuine controversy and fighting. That has really not been the case. It is a good group of people with [different] personalities.”
Reilly confirmed that Rachel, Finn and Kurt will graduate at the end of the season and may be spun off into their own show next fall. ”We collectively decided to revisit [the spinoff] in the back half of the [season] when it should be visited,” he explained. “It got out [in the media early] and then got a little bit crazy.”
And what about reports that the brouhaha strained relations between Glee co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Fulchak? “Those guys get along really well,” Reilly maintained. “Brad is the most even-keeled, mild-mannered guy in the world. And Ryan is who he is. He is a creative force… When that spinoff came around, I think his wheels started turning… and this got out. And I think the second it did, I think all of us were really surprised at how it took on a life of its own. This is something that was probably a two-day issue, that somehow it has taken on a bigger life.”
Reilly was bullish about the direction of show’s upcoming third season, which he described as “focused” and “back to [the] basics” that made it so successful. “There aren’t going to be any big guest stars, there aren’t going to be any tribute [episodes],” he said. “We’re focused on our core characters and relationships. [There will be] an incredibly clean arc. There will be a graduation at the end [of the season]. We know the three characters who will be graduating. How that’s going to play out I’m not going to say. There are some surprises; it’s not going to be predictable.”
